Privacy Policy — Era
Last updated: June 11, 2026
Era ("the app") is a daily selfie timelapse app built by Daniel Anderson. Era was formerly named Overlapse; the app, its features, and this policy apply to the same product. The app is free to use, supported by advertising, with an optional one-time in-app purchase that removes ads and the export watermark.
This policy explains what data the app accesses, what stays on your device, and what is shared with third parties. By using Era you agree to the practices described here.
Your photos and camera
- Camera. Era uses your camera to take the daily selfie photos that make up your timelapse. These photos are stored locally on your device.
- Photo library. With your permission, Era can save photos you capture and videos you export to your device's photo library.
- No uploads. Your photos and timelapse videos are not uploaded to any server. They stay on your device unless you choose to export or share them yourself.
- Your photos are never used for advertising, model training, or analytics.
Face detection (not face recognition)
Era uses Apple's on-device Vision framework to detect the position of a face in the camera viewfinder. This is used solely to help align consecutive photos so your timelapse looks smooth.
- This is face detection (locating where a face is in the frame), not face recognition (identifying who a person is).
- Era does not use Face ID, does not create or store any facial geometry or biometric template, and does not identify you.
- Face detection runs in real time on your device and produces no stored or transmitted output.
Advertising and analytics (third-party services)
Era is free and shows ads to support that. To do this, the app uses the following third-party services, which may collect information about your device and your use of the app:
- Google AdMob — serves the banner ads in the free version of the app. To show you more relevant ads, AdMob may use your device's advertising identifier (IDFA). On first launch the app shows Apple's App Tracking Transparency prompt; you can decline, and you can change this anytime in Settings > Privacy & Security > Tracking. AdMob privacy: support.google.com/admob/answer/6128543
- Google Firebase Analytics — collects anonymous usage and event data (such as which features are used and session information) to help improve the app.
- Google Firebase Crashlytics — collects crash reports and diagnostic data (such as device model, operating system version, and the state of the app at the time of a crash) so problems can be fixed.
Google's handling of this data is governed by the Google Privacy Policy. These services may use identifiers and cookies as described in their own policies.
Removing ads and tracking
Era offers a one-time in-app purchase that removes advertising and the video watermark. After purchasing, AdMob ad requests are no longer made. Firebase Analytics and Crashlytics collect basic usage and crash data regardless of purchase, in the limited form described above.
What Era does not collect
- Era does not require an account. It does not ask for your name, email address, or phone number.
- Era does not collect your contacts or precise location. (You may optionally set a location-based reminder; this is handled on your device.)
- Era does not sell your personal information.
Children's privacy
Era is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information, please contact us and we will address it.
Security
Your photos and timelapses are stored on your device. For data handled by the third-party services above, no method of electronic transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Changes to this policy
This policy may be updated from time to time. Changes are effective when posted on this page. Please review it periodically.
